What to do in Phoenix this Weekend

What to do in the Valley this Weekend

There is plenty to do in the valley during the summer and fall months when you book a luxury vacation rental with Holiday Rental. We put together a list of the best things to do in Phoenix during your stay.

Hike Camelback Mountain

Camelback Mountain is one of the highest peaks in Phoenix and certainly one of the prettiest hiking spots in the city. The 2,700 ft peak can be reached from Echo Canyon Trail, which is 1.2 miles long and a steep climb. The Cholla Trail on the east side of Camelback Mountain is 1.4 miles long and offers a gradual incline and beautiful views. If you need a more beginner-friendly trail Camelback’s base has Bobby’s Rock Trail which is around a 1-mile loop. You will find breathtaking views of the city on every trail. If you are going to take on this hike, remember to stay hydrated and bring sunscreen.

Check out the Phoenix Zoo

Looking for something to do with the whole family, visit the Phoenix Zoo and see hundreds of animals in their exhibits. Explore the Tropics, African, Arizona, and kids trails to see wildlife from all parts of the world. At the Phoenix Zoo, you can ride camels, feed giraffes, get up close to stingrays at Stingray Bay, and much more. If the kids need a break from walking around there are plenty of sitting areas, playgrounds, and even water play areas to cool off. Guests can enjoy many experiences such as a movie at the 4-D theater, ride through the park on the Safari Cruiser,  or pick your favorite animal on the Endangered Species Carousel.

Walk Through the Desert Botanical Garden

Explore desert beauty with 140 acres of plant and flower displays, garden trails, and a wide variety of tours and exhibits. Visit the Patio Cafe for a quick brunch and meals for the kids, then make your way to the local favorite exhibit. The Wild Rising by Cracking Art exhibit is an installation of more than 1,000 animal sculptures made from colorful and recycled plastic. After you have made your way around the nature trails, end the day with a bite to eat at Gertrude’s or find a gift and souvenir at the garden shop.

Visit the Phoenix Art Museum

Considered one of the largest art museums in this part of the United States, the Phoenix Art Museum is the perfect activity for all art lovers. With over 20,000 pieces of art, you can spend hours looking at the different works with dates ranging from the Renaissance to the present. If you want to learn about some of the exhibits and collections, you can join a public tour where museum docents will walk you through the history, artists, and more.

Enjoy Trails at Papago Park

Looking for something to do outside in Phoenix? Papago Park has many paved paths as well as non-paved trails and loops. These trails are perfect for walking, hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. Take a hiking trail up to the iconic Hole-in-the-Rock at sunset for amazing views of nearby lagoons and the Arizona sunset. Throughout the whole park, you can see a white pyramid that serves as Arizona’s first governor, Tom Hunt’s tomb. You can take a trial that will take you to the tomb, where you will have views into the Phoenix Zoo and the Hole-in-the-Rock.
